About Joel Freedman

Joel L. Freedman has directed and produced a wide range of films and videos, which have been shown worldwide, theatrically and on television.

He has directed and/or produced more than sixty films and videos including features, documentaries and commercials that have been shown worldwide theatrically and on television (60 Minutes, networks, PBS, Discovery, German TV, BBC, ARD, NDR, NRK etc.).

and more. He has produced and directed nineteen films on Native Americans.

Mr. Freedman holds a B.A. and an MFA degree in Motion Picture Production and Direction from New York University Tisch School of the Arts as Adjunct Professor of Film and Television.

He has lectured on filmmaking at many universities and institutions such as The Film Society of Lincoln Center and served as panelist in film & video for The New York State Council on the Arts and the International Monitor Awards. He is a founding member of The Association of Independent Video and Filmmakers (AIVF) and a member of FIVF and the Independent Documentary Association (IDA).

He is the principal of We Make Movies, LLC and Cinnamon Productions, Inc., both film/television production companies.

He has two children (jazz percussionist Daniel Freedman and poet/writer Katherine Rose Freedman), resides in Westport, and plays cello.
